Two Drivers For ArcBestSM Carrier ABF Freight® Named To America’s Road Team
- The two drivers have more than 5.4 million cumulative miles of accident-free driving
- America’s Road Team captains serve as ambassadors for the trucking industry
FORT SMITH, Arkansas, January 12, 2017 — ArcBestSM (Nasdaq: ARCB) today recognizes two ABF Freight® drivers who have been named captains of the 2017-2018 America’s Road Team by the American Trucking Associations — Tim Melody of Ontario, Oregon, and Steve Smalley of Phoenix, Arizona.
The drivers join an elite group of 20 captains chosen to represent the trucking industry and promote highway safety.
A panel of industry officials and trucking news media judged 33 finalists on their knowledge of the trucking industry, dedication to safety, ability to communicate the industry’s messages and overall safe driving record.
“Tim and Steve have achieved stellar safety records and are both consummate professionals, and I congratulate them on this recognition,” said ABF Freight President Tim Thorne. “We are proud they represent ABF Freight and our entire organization.”
Melody has been a professional truck driver for 27 years, the last 10 with ABF Freight. He has driven over 3 million accident-free miles. Smalley has been a professional truck driver for 33 years, the last 26 with ABF Freight. He has driven over 2.4 million accident-free miles. Both drivers also are members of the 2016-2017 ABF Freight Road Team.

America's Road Team captains travel the country speaking on behalf of the trucking industry to communities, news media and public officials. They address transportation and safety issues and offer advice on how to safely share the road with tractor-trailers. They also speak with fellow drivers, driver training students and corporate safety officers within the industry, and present trucking and safety issues to public officials at the national, state and local levels.
