America's Road Team - 2000 - Bill Mayhew

Drive for ArcBest
by Lindsey Kennedy

Bill Mayhew bought his own dump truck at the age of 18 and has been in the industry every since. As a matter of fact, almost all the men in his family are in the trucking industry.

To this Cincinnati road driver, the top three things that are most important to a driver are having a good attitude, being safety conscious, and performing as a good role model through appearance and conduct.

He would like to emphasize to all drivers that when they are in difficult traffic situations, "Always remain calm, drive more defensively than aggressively, take your time, don't get upset or excited and let your emotions get you in trouble."

Bill was a volunteer firefighter and paramedic in his hometown of Belpre, Ohio, for six years, is a member of the Moose Lodge, and enjoys competing in truck driving championships.
