America's Road Team - 2000 - Glen Ackerman

Drive for ArcBest
by Lindsey Kennedy

After more than 35 years as a truck driver, Albuquerque road driver Glen Ackerman feels he has a safety message for other drivers. As he says, "One can make a thousand look bad - and people remember the one, not the thousand."

The Nebraska native's first safety message is to always wear a seat belt. "In the last 35 years, I've seen too many times where people are ejected in an accident. And if you're ejected, your chances for survival are practically nil." Speaking from the perspective of nearly 3 million accident-free miles, he's a man who knows what he's talking about.

Glen has earned a number of safe driving awards and was New Mexico's Driver of the Month.

Glen has worked with children at his church for a number of years and enjoys speaking and singing gospel music.
