Explore ArcBest’s Sustainability Journey in our 2022 ESG Report
ArcBest’s fourth annual ESG report highlights our progress on building a more sustainable, inclusive and safer organization and world — while simultaneously addressing customers’ needs and helping to keep the global supply chain moving.
Our 2022 report discloses ArcBest’s official ESG Roadmap, which incorporates and connects the areas of ESG identified as most important to our stakeholders, business and industry. Additionally, we restructured the report to align with the three components of ESG — Environment, Social and Corporate Governance — providing clearer communication about ArcBest’s new and existing sustainability initiatives.
“As a leading logistics company and a pillar in our communities, we have a responsibility to prioritize ESG initiatives most pertinent to our organization, stakeholders and industry,” said Judy R. McReynolds, ArcBest chairman, president and CEO. “Through developing our ESG Roadmap and aligning with our mission to connect and positively impact the world, we continue to integrate ESG more fully into our business strategy. Our 2022 report details actions to improve operational efficiency, enterprise-wide safety and security, our customers’ and employees’ experiences and the places where we live and work. As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we’re encouraged by the progress toward a more sustainable company and supply chain, and we look forward to the bright future ahead.”
Achievements, Milestones and Progress
The report provides updates on several exciting initiatives, including:
Improving fuel efficiency in ABF Freight’s less-than-truckload (LTL) operations by reinvesting in equipment that meets the latest EPA engine requirements
Investing in more electric vehicles, including straight trucks, forklifts and yard tractors to test in ABF’s LTL network
Implementing City Route Optimization (CRO) technology in ABF’s city pickup and delivery operations, which changes how shipments are routed to increase shipping efficiency and help lower customers’ carbon footprint
Hosting an ESG-focused innovation competition to provide employees the opportunity to ideate and present solutions that could further ArcBest’s sustainability efforts
Realigning ABF Safety and Security into two separate departments to better support company needs while continuing to help set industry safety standards
Advancing ArcBest’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives by launching employee resource groups (ERGs) to help create an open and welcoming space for employees to foster community, and by partnering with Integrate Autism Employment Advisors to identify, recruit and retain professionals on the autism spectrum
Updating and implementing wellness policies for the company’s nonunion employees, including enhanced vacation, bereavement, maternity and parental leave and caregiver policies to improve work-life balance
Establishing three philanthropy pillars — Community, Education and People — to guide the company’s charitable giving in a more intentional way
