Applying for a new job is exciting. But once you submit an application, what happens next? How long can you expect to wait for a response? If you’re thinking about joining the ArcBest team, we’re here to make the process as smooth and straightforward as possible. From the first step to the final decision, we’ll guide you through what to expect and share tips to help you put your best foot forward.
The ArcBest hiring process
While the hiring process can vary slightly depending on the role, here’s what most applicants can expect:
Online application and screening
Start by finding a role that suits you at arcb.com/careers, then create a profile and upload your resume.
Not sure where to start? You can request recommendations to match your work experience and skills to open jobs.
The next steps depend on the type of job you’re applying for.
- Customer service or entry-level roles: You’ll complete an on-demand video Q&A using our HireVue platform. Record (and rerecord, if needed) your responses at a time that works best.
- Higher-level roles: A recruiter will reach out for a pre-screening call to help us learn more about your background and experience.
- Technical roles: You may be asked to complete a skills assessment at a time that fits your schedule.
Timeframe
We try to move applicants through this initial stage as quickly as possible, so you can typically expect to hear a follow-up within 1-2 weeks. If the role isn’t the right fit, we’ll notify you through email or phone.
Interview: In-person or virtual
If a recruiter believes you’re a strong candidate, you’ll be invited to schedule an interview with the hiring manager. Depending on everyone's availability, this interview may be conducted in person or virtually and could include other team members.
Some departments may schedule multiple interviews, but we do our best to make the process as efficient as possible. Although multiple interviews might feel overwhelming, they help us assess how well you fit the qualifications and competences of the role, our culture and team dynamic.
Timeframe
Depending on when you’re interviewed and how many other candidates are in the process, you may hear about the next steps as soon as the next day, or it could take about a week.
A recruiter will reach out if the role isn’t the right fit. We aim to provide insight, offer constructive feedback or suggest other opportunities that may be a better match.
Follow-up interview and offer
If a final interview is needed, a recruiter will reach out to schedule it. Otherwise, the next communication you receive from us will be a job offer!
Tips for applying for a job at ArcBest
To help you succeed when going through the hiring process, here are some top tips from our recruiters:
Online application
- Update your resume. Ensure it’s up-to-date and highlights the most relevant experience for the role.
- Check for accuracy. Double-check your contact information so we can reach you.
HireVue video
- Find a quiet space. Choose a location with minimal distractions and good lighting.
- Dress professionally. Even though our office has a “dress for your day” dress code, making a good first impression is crucial.
- Be prepared. You can record at your convenience, and you’ll have one chance to re-record if needed. Take a moment to think about your answers before starting.
Skills assessment
- Understand the process. We’ll provide clear instructions, including how long the evaluation will take, so you can set aside enough time to complete it without interruptions.
In-person interviews
- Get familiar with the role. Review the job posting to understand the role and relate your experience effectively.
- Learn a little about the company. Get a general sense of what we do and our company values.
- Get to know the hiring manager. Check their LinkedIn profile to learn about their experience and find where your interests intersect.
- Dress professionally. Choose an outfit that makes you feel confident and polished.
- Arrive early. Allow extra time for parking and check-in to avoid feeling rushed.
- Come prepared. Think through answers to common interview questions and come up with questions of your own for a productive discussion about the job and company.
