ArcBest Technologies is Helping Inspire the Next Generation of STEM Professionals
On October 24, 2023, ArcBest Technologies hosted students from a local high school in Mansfield, Arkansas, at its first “ABTech School Days” event. Focused on inspiring kids to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), the event provided insight into what a career in the field can look like and the various STEM opportunities in the logistics and transportation industry.
“ArcBest Technologies is passionate about supporting the community and helping local youth pursue STEM careers,” said Tina Appleyard, ArcBest Technologies’ director of information services. “Giving students the opportunity to speak directly with our technology professionals provides a deeper understanding of the career opportunities available so close to home. It was a pleasure to speak to the Mansfield students, and I look forward to seeing the event grow as more schools are invited to participate.”
The event began with a welcome from Tina and an overview of the company and its history. Students then participated in informational panels where they interacted with employees from our Information Services, Data Science and Infrastructure, Operations and Security departments — learning about a day in the life of our tech and innovation teams, the projects and products they’re currently developing, and about the STEM-focused career options we offer. The students also watched a video of ArcBest’s Vaux Freight Movement System™ technology and toured the campus where ArcBest Technologies employees work, including our impressive computer room and a 3D printer.
ArcBest Technologies plans to host more “ABTech School Days” events with other high schools in the area, striving to nurture young STEM enthusiasts while providing insight into local tech careers.
