Focusing on Service and Efficiency
Aligned with our multi-year Facility Enhancement and Growth Roadmap, our best-in-class LTL carrier, ABF Freight®, has made significant progress in expanding and updating ABF’s service center network, adding nearly 500 dock doors and completing renovations on multiple facilities. These additions to our nationwide network of 240 service centers help meet customer demand and create safer, more comfortable environments for our people.
Our progress includes new construction, expansions, renovations and extensive remodels and is aimed at adding capacity, improving employee experiences and standardizing renovations and sustainability updates. We’re adding dock doors to existing service centers and investing in new facilities in locations that align with our Roadmap, enabling us to service customers more efficiently and effectively. Renovations include updating employee common areas, switching to energy-efficient LED lighting, installing water-efficient plumbing and replacing HVAC units with high-efficiency units.
“Our focus remains on providing excellent service and driving efficiency. While our current ABF service center network allows us to do that, this strategic investment enables us to continue meeting our customers’ needs well into the future,” said Seth Runser, ABF Freight president. “We’re making good progress, and we’re seeing opportunities for things like increased capacity, enhanced operational efficiency and improved dock safety, not to mention more enjoyable workspaces for our teams.”
Facility Enhancement and Growth Roadmap Progress
We announced and began work on our ABF facility investment plan in 2021 and have added 494 dock doors to the service center network since then — 135 in 2022, 299 in 2023 and 60 so far in 2024.
Recent Projects
New Construction in Olathe, KS
Our new construction project in Olathe, KS, has added 60 doors to our network. This end-of-line facility is positioned strategically to add capacity and take on most of our Kansas City distribution center’s city operations. This enables us to maintain excellent service levels to local customers while providing transfer capacity at our Kansas City distribution center for network growth.
Leased to Purchase in Ventura, CA
Previously, we leased a shared facility in Ventura, CA, where we used 10 of the 18 dock doors. When the building went up for sale, we purchased it, which allowed us to add the remaining eight doors to our network. As a result, we have established a long-term position in this area.
Renovations
In the first quarter of 2024, we have completed renovations in Anaheim, CA, and Jonesboro, AR., providing the employees at these locations with better, safer and more comfortable workspaces. These upgrades are in addition to the nearly 30 renovations we completed in 2023.
