America’s truck drivers keep us connected
Every day, millions of dedicated professionals crisscross our nation’s highways, backroads and city streets, safely and reliably delivering the products we use and enjoy.
As an industry-leading integrated logistics company, the team at ArcBest sees this dedication firsthand. In preparation for National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW) — set for Sept. 14-20, 2025 — we invite you to join us in this important celebration.
Honoring a legacy of dedication
NTDAW began in 1988 as an initiative driven by former American Trucking Associations chairman Don Bowman to recognize truck drivers for their vital contributions. Since then, it has grown into a nationwide celebration held annually during the second week of September. This week serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices drivers make to keep America moving.
Trucking by the numbers
America’s 3.6 million truck drivers are the backbone of our supply chain, transporting everything from consumer goods and construction materials to food and medicine.
Consider these key facts and figures:
Over 72% of the nation’s freight is moved by truck
More than 80% of U.S. communities rely exclusively on trucks for freight transportation
There are 13.5 million registered trucks in the U.S., including nearly 3 million tractor-trailers
A typical professional driver logs more than 112,000 miles per year — equaling almost four trips around the equator

Thoughtful gestures that speak volumes
You don’t have to work in logistics to understand how well truck drivers serve our communities. Here are some simple ways to express your gratitude:
Host or join an event
Attend or organize a local appreciation event, whether it’s a cookout, recognition ceremony, charity drive or virtual celebration. Taking the time and effort to be there in person sends a strong and supportive message to the trucking community.
Pick up the tab
Waiting in line with a driver? Offer to cover the cost of their coffee or food. If you know a driver personally, invite them to join you for a meal. Taking a moment to connect can make drivers feel appreciated and cared for.
Interested in supporting driver-friendly businesses? These retailers offer special promotions for truck drivers to commemorate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
Give a gift or express thanks
Practical things like gift cards, digital subscriptions, branded gear, travel mugs, seat cushions, organizers and portable reading lights can help elevate the experience on the road. Even a simple “thank you” or a handwritten note can brighten a driver’s day and remind them that their work matters.
Show appreciation across social platforms
With many truck drivers active on social media, it’s easier than ever to connect and show your appreciation. Post photos, creative signs, personal stories or heartfelt thank-you messages using the official hashtags #NTDAW25 and #ThankATrucker to help your message reach a wider audience.
You can also tag a driver’s company to spotlight their contributions and share a public compliment — it’s a simple way to make a big impact.
Support truckers on and off the road
Driving safely around commercial vehicles is an effective way to assist the professional drivers we meet on the road. But there’s more you can do.
Help shift public perception by sharing positive stories, articles and videos that highlight drivers’ accomplishments, charitable efforts and commitment to safety. And if you hear someone express frustration with truckers, take a moment to offer a different perspective. Remind them that drivers are working hard to deliver the goods we all rely on — and that a bit of cooperation goes a long way in helping them do their jobs safely and efficiently.
