Newsweek and Statista determined their rankings by analyzing over 30 key performance indicators (KPIs) of the top 2,000 public companies by revenue with headquarters in the United States. Then, they surveyed over 26,000 U.S. residents, asking them to select companies familiar to them and evaluate the companies’ sustainability performance in general and in the three ESG categories: environment, social and corporate governance. Additionally, companies had the opportunity to provide their own sustainability data. Other information was collected from publicly available documents, including annual reports and sustainability reports.
