Ohio Lt. Governor announced CDL process improvements and recognized ABF Freight’s 100th anniversary at ABF’s Dayton service center
ArcBest’s less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight hosted Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted at its Dayton, Ohio, service center on October 11, 2023, for a press conference announcing several updates that modernize commercial driver’s license (CDL) processes in the state. The announced changes strive to make it easier for professional truck drivers to do their jobs and help keep the global supply chain moving. Representatives from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Ohio Trucking Association, Ohio Teamsters and ABF Freight were in attendance.
Ohio’s CDL improvements include providing the option for online license renewal, updating the CDL test to reflect real-world scenarios with questions focused on modern vehicle and safety standards, and extending the duration of a commercial learner’s permit from six months to 12 months.
“Our truck drivers continue to be fundamental to our nation’s economy, and through these enhanced regulations, Ohio is making CDL processes safer and more efficient — giving back valuable time to our drivers and helping ensure a better quality of life,” said Randy Lewis, an ABF Freight regional manager of safety and security. “It was an honor to have Lt. Governor Husted at our Dayton location to announce these industry-leading changes. I’m excited to see how the truck driving profession will grow across Ohio.”
