Michael E. Newcity
Chief Innovation Officer and President, ArcBest Technologies
ArcBest

Michael Newcity is the Chief Innovation Officer of ArcBest and President of ArcBest Technologies. With nearly 30 years of technology, finance, and strategy experience, Michael champions the advancement of ArcBest’s culture of innovation. His teams of highly engaged and creative technologists listen to our customers’ challenges and develop leading-edge solutions that enable more sustainable supply chains and drive the logistics industry forward. Michael’s leadership has also been instrumental in driving several enterprise-wide initiatives, including advancements in business intelligence, strategy management, and e-commerce.

Among Michael’s most notable career achievements is launching a restructuring plan in 2015 to link ArcBest’s business growth strategy with innovative technology development — rolling the traditional information technology group into a much larger organization encompassing project management, data science, research and development, and innovation and new ventures management. This transformation, coupled with treating the company’s innovation initiatives as a portfolio of business investments and products, has been pivotal to making technology a key enabler of ArcBest’s current strategy.

With a strong emphasis on disruptive technology, also significant in Michael’s career includes his role in steering the development of Vaux. Vaux is a ground-breaking patented system that completely transforms how freight is loaded, unloaded and worked in warehouses and distribution centers. It employs a deep technology stack, including custom mechanical engineering, edge computing, IoT, proprietary cloud software and advanced analytics.

Michael began his career with the company in 1993, serving in several management and director roles before being named ArcBest’s Chief Financial Officer in 2010. In 2013, his responsibilities expanded to oversee corporate information technology and economic analysis as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, where he served through the end of 2014 when he transitioned into his current role as Chief Innovation Officer and President of ArcBest Technologies.

Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from the University of Arkansas and an M.B.A. from the Walton College at the University of Arkansas. He also completed executive education programs at Chicago Booth, Columbia, Harvard, and the London Business School.
